Baby Slings: Okotoks, AlbertaTummy to Tummy: Infant to 3-6 moYou will have to support baby's neck in this hold until she is old enough to support her own or pull the sling up over the back of baby's head. Ensure that baby is upright and that her chin does not touch her chest. This is the only way to safely carry a baby in a sling until he or she gains control of their neck muscles. Eventually, baby will want to straighten his legs in this hold. This may be a cue that it is time to try a different carry.
Seated Cradle: 3 months – 2 yearsBaby's back will rest partly against the sling and partly against your chest.
Joey Hold: 3 months – 2 yearsIn this hold, baby’s back will rest against your chest. If baby doesn’t care for this hold try the seated cradle.
Hip Carry #1: 4mo – 50 poundsCarry baby on your hip as soon as she has outgrown the cradle and tummy holds and as soon as she can splay her legs on either side of your hip.
Hip Carry #2: 4mo – 50 poundsDon't forget to create a deep seat so baby’s knees are higher than her bum. This distributes weight on the bum instead of the legs.
Hip Carry #3: Walking – 50 poundsIf you find that the sling is hurting your back or shoulder, check that it is the correct size. A sling too large strains the back.
Back Carry: 8 months – 50 pounds
Legs out CradlePlace baby along the seam of the sling with her head opposite your slinged shoulder and legs hanging out the opposite side.
Criss Cross: Birth – 2 yrsFantastic hold for fit mom classes, long walks or activities that require lots of bending.
Twins Hip CarryFollow the instructions for the hip carry but place a sling on each shoulder and a baby on each hip. You may need help putting the second child in the hip carry.
Twins Front & BackPlace one child on a back carry then put another sling on either shoulder and follow the instructions for hip carry #2.
